11)An October Afternoon in Lima, Peru
The sun sets upon my brow
A book upon my lapâ
The cityâs cars I hear nearby
âas a realm of thoughtsâ¦
Sink deep into my mindâ
I am subdued by the cooing birds
And angels that whisper nearbyâ
My body seems to crave the stillness
âthe beauty of the skyâ¦
And the ocean sounds, nearbyâ

17) The Wild-cats of Huaytapallana (Nevados)
They run wild, the wild-cats of the Nevados
(by Huaytapallana)
âtheir hopes and dreams in a feast of baby-lambsâ¦
Lo! behind hidden rocks, and mountain shadowsâ
Above the fleeting nightâthe sky lapse like foam:
Thus, here is where the wild-cats of the Nevados roam:
Roam the starâarchival gloomâ¦.
Vague on nightâno laws, they run: run untamedâ
Roam the anew dark; born into a world of windsâ¦
Winds and forgotten morn. Lift up your everlasting eyes
(I cry!â¦)
To wars unknownâto the hunters and farmers
Of Huaytapllana, and the Nevadosâ¦whom will kill youâ¦
At blood-red duskâ; yes, ah! Yesâ¦
They die a sullen death: poisoned wild-cat (s)!
A heritage of overdue fateâ; thus,
Their appointed course of time, runs out: faint of
Breath!⦠(they will not see the dawn).
Note: #907 (written one day after visiting Whita-Pallana, and the surrounding Nevados. Information gathered by talking to the natives of the area ((written 10/27/2005))
