TO and Our Future at Wide Receiver I'm not real sure what to make of Keyshawn getting cut. I really didn't want TO, but now we need him. I feel pretty confident we will sign him because unless Keyshawn wanted a huge raise, we didn't cut Key for salary reasons. He was scheduled to make only 2.5 million which is a bargain for a starting wideout. I'm pretty sure he was cut to make room for a sizeable upgrade to our recieving corps. TO could give us a real chance to win the Super Bowl if he can keep his mouth shut.
Our offense will be one of the league's best if we can improve along the line. Team this offense with a young and improving defense, and you have a real good chance to be playing in late in January. If this happens all we need is to get a good kicker to round out one killer team. The long term future of our receiving corp is pretty cloudy. Glenn has two good years left. Crayton can be a solid #2 possession receiver, but that is it. I'm a big fan of saving some money from this year and making a run at Javon Walker. He is young, and a really good receiver. It will be tough to re-sign Witten, James, and Johnson (or a different center) and still get Walker, but I'm sure we could. Imagine Walker, Crayton, Witten, and a 3rd round speedster from the 2006 draft as receiving targets. TO could possibly fit into this plan, but I would just try to get one good year out of him and can him. He has three great years left if he can stay healthy, but I say he becomes a cancer after that. Anything is possible with him however.UPDATE: We signed him so I guess we will find out what its like to have a big time wide out. He may change my opinion of wide receivers. I have never really thought you needed a tremendous wide receiver on your team.
I've always leaned towards having good O-lines, quarterbacks, and running backs, while having solid receivers like Glenn and Key from the last few years. My opinion is probably based on the fact that Dallas hasn't had one since I've been following them so religously.
